Portsmouth Property Association Annual Charity Dinner 2024

Wow. Portsmouth Property Association Annual Charity Dinner was a fantastic fun fundraising event!

The Portsmouth Property Association held its annual black-tie Charity dinner last week at The Royal Maritime Club with guest speaker Rev Kate Bottley, and Wheeler & Lai Chartered Surveyors were proud to be involved by way of sponsorship for the Charities Table.

Rebecca and Sau were proud to sit with Enable Ability and Moving on Project Portsmouth as our dinner guests, and hear about their work within the local community. Sau is on the PPA Committee, so was also working behind the scenes with other members to ensure a smooth evening of food, fundraising and conversation.

So far, we know that over £1,600 was raised by “Heads n Tails” and the Raffle alone and we were blown away by the great number of bids for the Auction lots, and the amazing generosity of those attending…final total to follow no doubt!

The evening started with Welcome Drinks in the foyer sponsored by HW Conveyancing Searches who have been long time supporters of the PPA, and then moved to dinner in the Trafalgar ballroom which was beautifully decorated The PPA were pleased to have the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Tom Coles and Lord Mayoress at the top table, as well as Clive Emson MBE, FRICS, FNAEA, FNAEA..

There were over 200 guests and the food was delicious, drinks and conversations flowed, as well as plenty of raffle tickets purchased. We enjoyed the welcome and short speeches from the Chair of the PPA, Iain Morrison of Finch Insurance, as well as Ian Lee, Vice Chair from Destin 4 Chartered Surveyors who were the main sponsor.

We were treated to Rev Kate Bottley who gave a captivating and humorous speech, taking to roving the hall rather than standing at the front, where sadly the lectern would have overshadowed her. Rev Kate was brilliant in her delivery and very happy to engage with the room once the evening came to an end too, superb guest speaker. Chinneck Shaw were this year’s Speaker Sponsor.

As always Clive Emson was exceptional as the auctioneer for the evening, holding attention even as the volume of conversations was elevated, sadly the sound system was a underwhelming. Nonetheless, plenty of bidders and much money raised in over 12 lots ranging from afternoon tea, to a F1 related experience centre tour. The smooth running of the night was a team effort, but much thanks to Rob Marchant and his team at Clive Emson Auctioneers who tirelessly support and Rob who helps organise the annual dinner.

Wheeler and Lai Chartered Surveyors definitely recommend joining the PPA to build connections, looking froward to varied CPD and social events, and are proud to assist the organisation through committee work.

When were were offered the chance to sponsor the Charities Table, we were pleased to be able to assist and enable our fundraisers and volunteers to have a well deserved night off.
